Ben Bergen

Professor of Cognitive Science

Dr. Bergen’s research addresses language comprehension, using experimental and computational techniques. His work focuses primarily on the mechanisms that humans use to extract meaning from words, phrases, and sentences. Some of his work has addressed whether comprehension relies on grounding meaning in individual world experiences. Other work focuses on the extent to which comprehension relies on statistical regularities in language, through research on how neural language models can be trained to respond to language in human-like ways.
