Travel and Research Application
Students currently enrolled in the Computational Social Science M.S. program may submit the Travel and Research Application form to apply for funding for travel or capstone expenses. To be eligible, students must:
- Be in good academic standing
- Have no holds on their student account
Reimbursements costs may include:
- Ground expense (gas, parking)
- Airfare (when not drivable distance)
- Hotel Expense
- Registration Fees
- Presentation Materials (copying/poster printing)
Please read the following instructions carefully and follow all steps to fully complete your application:
2. Forward proof of your capstone host/faculty advisor's endorsement to css-advising-g@ucsd.edu
3. ONLY if traveling, please additionally email the following to css-advising-g@ucsd.edu:
- A copy of your acceptance invitation to present at the conference if requesting travel funds. If you are still waiting for a decision on your conference submission/application, please note that while we will review your request, you do not meet the eligibility requirements for these funds until you can provide proof that you (or your group/advisor) will be presenting at the conference.
- Your certification of business travel
Finally, please note that although you can request whatever you'd like, there are no guarantees that CSS will be able to cover this amount. This is not one of those cases where "Ask for more, so that they give you the amount you want" is the right strategy. Instead, offer an honest appraisal of the costs, and we'll do our best to offer what we can.
We ask that students keep expenses as low as possible. For example, fly economy, carpool, share accommodations when appropriate, and explore other cost-effective options. Thoughtful budgeting helps us support more students with the limited funding available.
